Dolly & Sara in with their littermates
Sara and Dolly were the only
females from Katie's litter born in Sept. 2002.
We knew we wanted to keep a girl from this
litter, but with both Dolly and Sara having so
many wonderful qualities we were unable to make
a choice between the two girl puppies. So, we
kept them both with the intention of placing one
of them at about 6 months of age. But such was
not to be the case! Both girls developed into
lovely ladies and are a part of the Excalibur
family.
CH Excalibur's Dolly Anna
Dolly, our sweet little Miss, began her show
career as a puppy. She was shown by Bryan and
Nancy Martin and earned a number of points, and
then came home for awhile to grow up a bit. In
Feb 2004 Dolly returned to the ring and was
shown by Carol Millar at the Chicago Int'l
Cluster. This little dynamo finished her
Championship by earning back-to-back 5 point
majors! What a great way to finish her
title--at the shows leading into a TTCA Regional
Specialty weekend.
CH Excalibur's Salishan Sarabi
Although Sara did not begin her show career
until she was 25 months old, she was certainly
not to be outdone by her sister! Handled by
Nancy and Bryan Martin, Sara, looking oh so
beautiful and elegant in her luxurious show
coat, was shown for the first time on Oct. 9,
2004 and finished her Championship on Nov. 13,
2004 with a Best of Breed and Group placement
from the classes! Another wonderful way to
complete a title!
Since Sara was in heat the day
she finished her Championship, a quick decision
was made to proceed with breeding her and she
produced a lovely litter of 8 puppies in Jan
2005. Sara's first "show kids" will be shown
starting in fall of 2005--be sure to watch for
them!
Raising two puppies from the same
litter can be great fun as they will play
together and entertain each other. But it can
also be challenging as they need to be separated
from each other often so they can develop their
own individual personalities instead of becoming
overly dependant on each other. Thus, Dolly was
often gone to her handlers while Sara was home.
Then when Dolly came home, Sara left to stay
with a friend, Stacy and her Chow Chows while
Stacy began training Sara for obedience
competition. Stacy has shared many memorable
stories about Sara playing with the Chows and
doing zoomies around them! One of Stacy's
funniest stories is of the time that Sara was
following a Chow down the steps--well at the
bottom the Chow abruptly stopped and stood
still--but Sara was running down the steps so
fast she could not stop so she took a flying
leap and landed right on top of the Chow. Stacy
said the expression on the Chow's face was
priceless when he turned and looked over his
shoulder to see Sara straddling him (with her
tail wagging wildly of course!). Well, the Chow
just shook her off and kept on walking. One can
only imagine what that Chow must have been
thinking!
Sisters being sisters, the
sibling rivalry between Sara and Dolly did
surface from time to time. If Dolly had the
turtle stuffed toy, then Sara HAD to have that
toy. But if Sara had the Nylaring, then Dolly
would do whatever she could to trick Sara into
dropping the ring so she could grab it and run.
Do they, like many sisters, have
a rivalry over boyfriends? Well, I guess you
could say they do. When Sara came into heat in
July 2005, a decision was made to breed her to
the well known and handsome "Maestro" (also
known as Micey!). By the time arrangements
could be made to drive to Indiana to bring
Maestro back to Wisconsin--well, you guessed
it--Dolly was also in heat and just as anxious
to be bred to the one and only Maestro.
Maestro was oh so happy to have the two sisters
all to himself. What a guy! We had hopes that
one of the girls would have puppies. The
wonderful surprise is that both Sara and Dolly
will have Maestro babies in Sept 2005.
Who knows, maybe there will be a
"Sister Act II" in one of their litters.
Watch for news of the arrival of the "At the
Movies" (Sara) litter and the "Crystal" (Dolly)
litter.
